Photo Essay - Addis Ababa - June 2001 -  MediaEthiopia
Our correspondents spent a day on the construction site of the Addis Ababa - GohaTsion road talking to engineers and technicians. The asphalt-paved road that connects Addis Ababa with Northern Shoa and eventually to Gojjam through the great Abay Gorge is financed by loan from the government of Japan and is expected to dramatically improve the quality and longevity of this important trunk road.
The contractor is Kajima Construction Company of Japan. The pictures show some of the construction sequences. A culvert structural work is followed by filling and compaction. Pictures on the right show cut through a mountainous region north of Addis Ababa.
